Fallout 3 is the balls. This game is just so damn…vast.
Sure, there’s a main quest, but I ain’t touched it in days. I’m having too much fun discovering all the little settlements that exist out in the wastes. For instance, this morning I discovered a burned out farmhouse that had a working computer terminal inside. On the terminal were the diary entries of the post apocalyptic survivors that were living there. They were discussing the irrigation that they’d set up, the meager form of government they had constructed in their dwelling, the vegetables that were growing under their care. The last journal entry spoke of a group of people they noticed traveling past the house that they were going to greet.
I’m guessing that didn’t end well for them. My dog and I searched for supplies and left.
I didn’t think that there was any way I could play an FPS and think of it as a role playing game. Fallout 3 has pulled it off, and done so extremely well.
