I’m surprised to find that Noah has not yet rambled about this. It’s probably due to fatigue.

Watchmen is filled with problems, but I’ll not list them here. I’m going to keep this concise and simply point on the main reason this movie fails.

To truly understand what is happening from scene to scene, you really need to have read the book.  The movie does not do a good job of explaining itself.  So, for the audience member that hasn’t read Watchmen, the movie is a confusing jumble of ideas.

Unfortunately, if you’ve read the book the movie breaks in an entirely different way. You notice all the epic fails that happened in translation. I’m not talking about somebody’s outfit being the wrong color here.  I’m talking about characters speaking other characters lines, major plot points being changed (some with reason, others with none that I can fathom) and just flat out ignoring certain themes and ideas from the book.

And the biggest sin of all?  The characters refer to themselves as The Watchmen.

Ouch.
