Terminator Salvation was better than expected, but I am, as always, haunted by a few details.

Marcus Wright’s acceptance that Kyle Reese is John Connor’s father – Put yourself in Marcus’s shoes for a minute. You’ve just discovered that:

  • You’re not dead.
  • You’re in the future
  • You’re mostly a robot
  • The 30-something guy standing in front of you really doesn’t like you

Now, when that guy tells you that the 17 year old kid you met earlier is his father, don’t you think that you would still find that just a little bit odd? I mean, you don’t even know that time travel exists.

The Logistics of The Terminator Time Loop and the Logical Fallacy of Skynet – Skynet knows that there have been attempts on John Connor’s life in the past that have failed. It tells Marcus as much. So if they know that the T-800 from the first film and the T-1000 from the second film are going to fail to kill him, why do they still send them? In fact, sending these robots to kill John Connor actually cause his existence. If they don’t send the T-800 back to kill him, Kyle Reese has no reason to go back in time to save him. Skynet’s best course of action in this regard would be to do nothing.

The Water Snake Robots – Why?

Nothing Happens – At the end of the movie we’re really left with nothing. Quite literally nothing has happened. Boiled down, T4 is about how John Connor gets the facial scar we see at the beginning of T2.

War of the Worlds Knockoff – Didn’t the whole affair feel a lot like Spielberg’s War of the Worlds with robots instead of Tripods?

Seriously, wtf were those water snake robots about? And why were they in that tiny river? Are they just every where? How did they not notice the enormous Resistance HQ right next to them?

So the Logistics loop. It seems to me that Skynet is not as bright as it really should be. Why not instead of killing random people, just start the appocalypse earlier? Like during the infancy of the interwebs. Since all these super robots can control other machines, why not download Skynet into one of these robots, plug in and bombs away. Connor being too young would have a better chance of dying and the war never starting.
