Starting next week, Parallax City will be on a twice a week schedule for the forseeable future.
The reason for this is completely awesome, and completely a secret. Well, not completely. I’ll sum it up as thus: Noah and I are starting work on a new project that is very different from Parallax City. We got inspired to take a shot at something, and we’re gonna take it.
PXC isn’t going anywhere, or even getting pushed to the side. It’s still our primary focus. We just need a little time to work on this other thing too.
Thanks, as always, for being awesome. I’m sure I’ll be dropping more hints about what we’re up too soon.

Ever since this comic went live and someone referred to it as “Kevin Smith bashing”, I’ve been wondering if I should have written it.
Kevin Smith is my favorite player in the film world. Period. The guy’s got guts, and a phenomenal ear for dialogue. If I could turn myself into half the writer the man is, I’d be counting myself lucky.
Now, I don’t suppose to know Kevin Smith. I’ve been a fan for years, seen his movies, participated on his board at ViewAskew.com, attended one of his Q&As, and listen to each Smodcast as it comes out. The candor with which he presents his life via all these formats, and the responsiveness he has to his followers breeds a sense of kinship with the man that really doesn’t exist. So, when Kevin Smith stops being 100% hilarious all the time, and starts talking about smoking weed, and smoking weed, and smoking weed, I start to wonder; what the hell happened to my buddy? Why the sudden love affair with pot? More importantly, why the need to publicize his use so frequently?
I know there are some who would say it’s the weed I have a problem with. They would be wrong. I don’t have a problem with Kevin Smith or anyone else smoking themselves silly. What I do think is odd is the associated clamor for attention. It would be just as frustrating if someone started telling me about how much they liked to drink all the time, and if all that drinking changed the stuff I liked about them.
So, I guess what I’m really trying to say is: Kevin, I liked you much better without the filter of weed. Here’s hoping that smart and hip fellow I’ve come to admire over the past several years hangs in there and doesn’t get pushed aside by the occasionally humorous but mostly droll stoner that’s been filling my Tweetie queue.

I’ve had a hamburger at my last two non-breakfast meals, and am seriously considering going for a third.

Hey, thanks for visiting, we really appreciate your patronage. Due to an overwhelming commitment for Drawn by Mouse I’m going to be a little too busy to do 3 strips this week. Right now it’s looking like we’ll only have a Wednesday strip. Thank you for your patience and understanding though, and please return next week when we should be rolling full steam ahead.
Ciao for now,
Noah

Hey, check this out. Noah has published a small bit at Daily Cartoonist about Karl Kerschl‘s guest strip at PvP. We’re both big fans of Karl, and as Noah said earlier via Twitter, PvP has never and will never look this good again. Here’s hoping that this guest strip will result in lots more readership for Karl, as The Abominable Charles Christopher is simply genius.

Guitar Hero was my first foray into “music gaming” or whatever it is the kids are calling it these days. I happened to walk by a demo stand for the game as I was walking through a certain big box electronics dealer that hasn’t gone bankrupt. At first the whole idea struck me as silly. Why would I want to pretend to play the guitar? However, my curiosity got the better of me (and the fact that the store was nearly empty probably didn’t hurt), and I picked up the little plastic guitar and started up Black Sabbath’s War Pigs.
After the initial confusion on what I was supposed to be doing passed, I got into the groove and started hitting a good percentage of the notes (I was on Very Easy, mind you). About three quarters of the way through, I started falling in love with the game. I really felt like I was playing the song, and playing it well. For someone who doesn’t know how to play the guitar (I’ve been told that the opening riff from “Smoke on the Water” doesn’t count) it felt like savant powers had been unlocked. I was now a fucking bonafied guitar god.

A lot has happened here since January. A lot. Months and years from now this statement will probably seem like a ridiculous thing to have said. But right here and now I have an enormous feeling of accomplishment. Some of you reading this are returning readers and that’s still a really new thing for us… for me. The pressure to be consistent can be overwhelming for me, but I promise to meet the challenge and bring the goods on schedule.
Thank you for reading our strip. We’re immensely proud of everything we’ve done here, starting with you. The quality of comic we’re starting to produce is inspired solely by our increased readership. So thank you for being our motivation and inspiration. I hope we always have something here to entertain you.
Peace in the Middle East,
Noah

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. But today is a gift. That’s why its called the present.

I’ve always wanted to start a post that way.
In case you missed it in the sidebar over there, we’re trying to update three times a week now. I’m getting better at writing in 3-4 panels, and Noah’s got the system down for his art, so each comic doesn’t take as much labor to bring into existence. Hopefully they’re better for it as well.
And with that, I fade back into the shadows…
